Praise for October Run
‘Lyrically written’ and `page turner’ aren’t adjectives that are often used together to describe a single novel, but October Run is both. Betsy Fitzgerald had better have a sequel in the works, because I want to follow Phred on more adventures.” — Charlotte Libov, award-winning journalist, author, and columnist
October Run is a true page turner. Phred’s journey is well crafted, addictive, complex and beautifully simple all at once. Betsy Fitzgerald weaves a tale of suspense, betrayal, humor and hope that will leave you waiting eagerly for her next book.” — Tracy McArdle author of Confessions of a Nervous Shiksa and Real Women Eat Beef
One barely catches ones breath, turning the pages of this deeply felt and engaging novel. Betsy Fitzgerald brilliantly explores the meaning of family, the toll of loss, and the courage to begin again. I highly recommend the ride. — Mary E. Mitchell, author of Starting Out Sideways and Americans in Space
Great read and definitely movie material. Rollicking good read! Great diversity of characters, all well-fleshed and compelling. Believable twists, plausible ending. Really, wow, amazing. I can totally see this as a movie … – Jo Ann Jaacks, writer and columnist, Litchfield County Times
Reader Reviews
Could Not Put It Down! When I first picked it up, I was not sure I would like this book. The writing style is quite unique and very fast paced. About four pages in, I was captivated and simply could not put it down! I found it was written similarly to a long short story, with many, many twists and turns throughout the book that completely caught me off guard. Just when I thought I knew what was next- TWIST! Another adventure! I found myself really connecting with all of the characters and wanting to learn more. I am very eager to pick up the next Phred adventure and cannot wait to read more work by Betsy Fitzgerald. Highly recommended! ***** A. Bouchard of Boston Amazon.com
A fun, whirlwind ride of a novel. The story offers sufficient twists to keep you on the edge of your seat, and does not rely on easy morality. Although we think we know who the bad guys are early on, the story keeps us guessing and you might find a glimmer of humanity in the most unlikely characters. I hope that we don’t have to wait too long for the next installment in the Phred Rivers series, because it definitely leaves you wanting more. **** Kevin Scarborough on Amazon.com
Rollicking Good Time. This book is a lot of fun, memorable characters, traveling in one of those situations, where you can so easily see yourself being. feels like you are along for the ride. totally enjoyed. ***** Emma J on Amazon.com
Ms. Fitzgerald manages to craft literary characters that are simultaneously distinct and relatable. The plot moves forward logically without being predictable and flows smoothly between storylines, flashbacks, and daydreams. And in the midst of the mystery, suspense, and humor, Fitzgerald somehow manages to slip in startling insights that ring true for all humanity, paying no mind to the deep rooted prejudices and willful misconceptions that keep us perpetually at odds with one another. Sitting at my desk (yes, I was reading at work… tsk tsk) I was incapable of stifling giggles, keeping my heart from racing, or my vision from swimming (though, with great effort, I did manage to avoid the embarrassment of actual fallen tears). I highly recommend this book … And I am eagerly and impatiently awaiting the sequel. ***** Meaghan Elizabeth on BarnesandNoble.com
